Animal Cruelty, Testing, & Behavior
Reasoning
Visual Arts
As I was doing my initial research for this project, this picture was one of the ones that moved me the most. A bunny that had been tested on, his fur had gotten frazzled from the acidic chemicals and reactions of the product and left him scared and well.. you can see for yourself. I wanted to remake this bunny in real life to create a heart wrenching effect when you see it. I 3D printed this shape, covered it in multiple layers of clay and textures, and then painted it the best I could to match the image.
English
I decided that for my English portion of this project, I would write my anyway required college application essay. I chose prompt 7, so my task was to write a personal essay on something I'm passionate about. So that it would tie into my project, I wrote about how important it is to understand how animals communicate, and I then tied that into how we should try to be considerate and open minded about everything.
Civics
For civics, my product ended up being an infographic to generalize my research. As seen below. I then have separate notes and documents to back up my reasoning and the justification of animal invasion.

What I needed and found easily from this website was all the different types of testing
they do currently on animals. Not as far as the differences between how they would test
vaccines over makeup, but the actual physical testing on things like their eyes vs. skin.
Each type of test was easy to find and clearly explained.

This is literally just the link Mr. Ward gave me to use and choose which prompt I thought fit best with my idea for my essay. There were multiple prompts that I could’ve used and made work for my topic, but I chose prompt 7 because it was more a free-for-all so that I could write without entire guidelines.

I enjoyed watching this video in general, aside from taking information away from it. The debate going on in this video is about whether or not animal testing is ever justified. To my surprise, points made from both sides made me think about things from a different view. I personally lean more towards being against testing, over supporting it. But the people in this video made some good points that helped me understand the way they see it.

This video really had me feeling the weight of guilt and sorrow for the animals that get
tested on. I gained a good bit of perspective and information from watching the process
they go through for these animals prior, during, and after testing. What I typically thought
of when it came to animal testing was makeup, but now after watching this video I think
about the other things tested too. All the vaccinations for toxic diseases and viruses are
tested on hundreds and hundreds of animals.

The link I found for reference essays to read was very helpful. It had multiple examples for multiple schools from each graduating class. I liked it a lot because it was well organized and right in front of me to just scroll through and read. I wish I would’ve known which prompts these students chose because it didn’t come out and say it, even though I could figure it out.
